Van Trinh Cave spans an impressive 4,000 square meters, encompassing multiple caverns that reveal the vast scale of this natural wonder. This cave is one of the most expansive dry caves in Ninh Binh. 

The cave stands tall with ceiling heights that vary between chambers, rising up to dramatic peaks that captivate anyone entering its depths. The ceiling of the cave looks like a Cathedral church with glittering stalagmite beams like hanging light-bulbs. Around the cave is the relief artwork with stalactites with all kinds of human beings, animals such as reeds, eagles, tigers, turtles, big rocks… 

Its structure includes broad spaces and narrow passageways, connected by natural stone formations that add to the cave’s mesmerizing layout. As you journey deeper, the cave’s layout showcases a variety of limestone formations shaped over centuries. The cave consists of two small interconnected caves, positioned one above the other, known as Thuong Cave (Upper Cave) and Ha Cave (Lower Cave). 

Thuong Cave

The Upper Cave sits above, spanning around 150 square meters with a relatively flat floor. The ceiling is adorned with numerous stalactites that rise and fall, resembling human figures in various standing and sitting postures. For this reason, the place is playfully referred to as “Sky Market” (Cho Troi). The floor of Thuong Cave is relatively flat. But it is punctuated by countless stalagmites with diverse shapes, such as lanterns, candles, guardian lions, eagles, tigers, turtles, court ladies, and even eunuchs.

If you pay close attention, you will easily notice a skylight at the top of the cave, also known as the “celestial eye”. This skylight holds special significance, symbolizing the harmony of yin and yang, and the unity of heaven and earth. Surrounding this area are nooks adorned with small, round stones resembling duck eggs, chicken eggs, marbles, beans, and grains. Locals often visit to pray for luck and prosperity. Ha Cave also features high ceilings and green-tinted stalactites that shimmer like precious stones.
