Coc village festival is a big festival of the year of the people here, in order to honor Can Nuong Duc Thanh, usually held on the 4th and 5th day of December (lunar calendar) every year at Phong Coc communal house.
Day 4 is the day when the village worships Than Hoang and Than Nong, and at the same time deploys preparations for sacrifices and festival activities of the following days.
Day 5 is known as Dai Dam day, the village organizes a procession of Gods from Coc shrine to Coc communal house to sacrifice their place and open a festival for all people in the village and visitors from all over the world.
Day 6 is the day of the great sacrifice of Than Hoang and Than Nong, the offering has 9 pigs (each hamlet contributes one pig).
On the 7th, there will be a ceremony to process God from Coc communal house to Coc shrine, the festival will officially end at this time.
Phong Coc communal house
Phong Coc communal house in Quang Yen town, Quang Ninh province is the border between Phong Coc ward and Phong Hai ward and is located in the center of Ha Nam island region, far from the center of Ha Nam island. Quang Yen town center 5km south, across Song Chanh Bridge. Dinh Coc is one of the oldest and largest communal houses in the North.
The communal house is named Coc communal house due to its geographical shape similar to the Coc bird. Coc communal house is located in an area of more than 5,200m2, in front overlooking the Dai Nhan River. The main structure of the wooden communal house has many carved pieces with delicate lines, rich images, and a liberal layout in the style of the Le Dynasty. Behind the communal house are two shady old Bodhi trees, making the communal house even more ancient.
