1.1. Entry requirements:
Most foreign visitors must have:

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry

  • At least 1–2 blank passport pages

  • A valid visa or visa exemption

  • Sometimes proof of onward/return ticket and accommodation details

1.2. Visa-Free Entry (Visa Exemption)
Some nationalities can enter Vietnam without a visa for short stays.
Examples:

  • 45 days visa-free: UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan, South Korea, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland

  • 30 days visa-free: Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Laos, Cambodia

  • 21 days visa-free: Philippines

  • 14 days visa-free: Brunei, Myanmar

  • 90 days visa-free: Chile, Panama

If travelers want to stay longer than the visa-free period, they must apply for a visa.
1.3. Vietnam e-Visa (Most common option)
Vietnam offers an electronic visa (e-Visa) for travelers from all countries.
Key features: 

  • Valid for up to 90 days

  • Single or multiple entry

  • Apply online

  • Processing time: usually 3–7 working days

  • Government fee: USD 25 (single entry), USD 50 (multiple entry)

Documents needed:

  • Passport scan

  • Digital passport photo

  • Travel information (entry port, dates)

  • Email and online payment method

1.4. Embassy Visa
Travelers may also apply through a Vietnamese embassy or consulate if they need:

  • Long-term visas

  • Work or business visas

  • Special entry purposes (investment, study, etc.)

1.5. Special cases

  • Phu Quoc Island: Visa-free for up to 30 days if arriving directly and not entering mainland Vietnam.

  • Business / work visas: require a sponsor company in Vietnam.
