The official currency is the Vietnamese Dong (VND).
Notes commonly used: 10,000 – 500,000 VND.
Example prices (approx.):
Coffee: 30,000 – 60,000 VND
Local meal: 50,000 – 120,000 VND
Taxi (short ride): 80,000 – 200,000 VND
2.2. Cash vs Card
Cash is still very common in Vietnam.
You should carry cash for:
Street food
Local markets
Small restaurants
Taxis and small shops
Cards (Visa/Mastercard) are accepted at:
Hotels
Shopping malls
Restaurants
Tour companies
But smaller businesses may not accept cards.
