The first-ever Cultural Festival Of Ethnic Minorities with less than 10,000 people, themed “Preserving and developing the cultural identity of small ethnic groups”, will take place from October 6 to 8 in Lai Chau Province.
About Cultural Festival of Ethnic Minorities
This is the first time the festival has taken place to honor ethnic minorities in Vietnam.
Participants in the festival
The festival will have the participation of 13 localities including Lai Chau, Cao Bang, Thai Nguyen, Dien Bien, Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Tuyen Quang, Son La, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh and Kon Tum with representatives of artisans and people from 14 ethnic groups with a population of fewer than 10,000 people including Pa Then, Chut, Lu, Lo Lo, Mang, Co Lao, Bo Y, Cong, Ngai, Si La, Pu Peo, Ro Mam, Brau, O Du.

The opening ceremony of the festival will take place on the evening of October 6 and will be reported live on Vietnam television stations (VTV2, VTV5) and broadcast live on the Voice of Vietnam (VOV4). Before that, delegates will attend the flower offering ceremony at the statue of “Uncle Ho and Lai Chau ethnic minority people".
Activities at the festival
Within the framework of the festival, many rich and attractive activities will take place such as performances, introduction of festival excerpts, and traditional cultural rituals of ethnic groups with a population of less than 10,000 people.
Along with that is the Mass Arts Festival with folk songs, folk dance, and ethnic music programs that have their own unique ethnic characteristics in each locality, integrated with performances of traditional costumes of different ethnic groups. Population under 10,000 people (casual, festival, wedding attire).

Attendees will learn more about Vietnam's ethnic minorities
Implementing localities will have space to display typical cultural products of ethnic groups with a population of less than 10,000 people, introducing images and documents about tourism, culture, and human history of the localities, cultural artifacts associated with the daily life of the people. Along with that is a demonstration of traditional crafts of ethnic groups with a population of less than 10,000 people, typical of the locality.
The Organizing Committee also organized the exhibition "Cultural characteristics of ethnic groups with a population of less than 10,000 people in the cultural community of Vietnamese ethnic groups" to introduce the traditional culture of ethnic groups with a population of less than 10,000 people (villages, housing, economic activities, traditional occupations, costumes, life cycle rituals, folk festivals).

Besides, there is a display and introduction of traditional costumes and patterns of 14 ethnic groups with a population of less than 10,000 people, and the symbolic design of the festival.
There are also sports activities such as tug of war, stick pushing, crossbow shooting, and activities to promote, introduce, and connect tourism products of Lai Chau province with other localities.
Meaning of festival
The goal of the festival is to honor and promote the identity and traditional values of ethnic minorities, educate patriotic traditions, national pride, and strengthen the great unity of ethnic groups.
This is also an opportunity to introduce and promote to domestic and international friends the potential and strengths of the nation in developing culture, sports, tourism, and integrating traditional cultures of ethnic groups in the development innovation, integration and development, especially of smaller population groups.
The festival's activities aim to raise awareness and social responsibility in preserving and promoting the cultural identities of Vietnam's 54 ethnic groups, in protecting traditional culture and building Vietnamese culture.
