Legend of Dinh Cau Festival
Dinh Cau is a simple ancient temple made of leaves, the current architecture has become more spacious and grand after being renovated in the past few years. According to records, the palace was built in 1973, when the first residents from the Central region settled on the island. Phu Quoc residents from ancient times recounted that they used to make a living by fishing. Many fishermen went out to sea and encountered fierce waves and storms that swept away countless people. Not long after, they saw a cliff gradually appear at the sea mouth to help fishermen land on shore. Thinking it was a good omen, the islanders set up a shrine to pray to the gods to protect them from disasters at sea. Since then, the weather has been favorable, life has been peaceful, and Dinh Cau Phu Quoc festival has also begun since then. Dinh Cau Festival, also known as Dinh Cau Ky Yen Worshiping Ceremony, is held on the 15th day of the 10th lunar month every year.

How to worship at Dinh Cau
The main hall of Dinh Cau houses a shrine worshiping Lord Ngoc Nuong Nuong and the statue of Hai Cau, the immortals who protect fishermen in the sea and islands, with a simple worship set including incense vases, lamps, bells, and drums. According to research, the ancient origin of Dinh Cau is related to the religion of Mother Goddess worship. This proves that since the beginning of the world, Vietnamese people have discovered Phu Quoc island and laid the foundation for Vietnamese culture to take root in this remote island region. People on the island, before each trip to sea or on holidays or New Year, come to burn incense to pray for "smooth sailing" on their sea trips.

The festival becomes more exciting and bustling than ever. Not only the islanders but also tourists can participate in many attractive competitions and folk games such as: pot banging, sack jumping, stilt walking, boat racing at sea, duck hunting at sea...
The most notable part of the competition is the duck catching competition at sea. Dozens of ducks will be released in the sea far from shore and allowed to swim freely. Everyone present, including natives and tourists, can swim out to catch ducks to take home. It sounds simple, but ducks swim very fast, and ocean waves constantly hit people, making catching ducks at sea not easy. At the end of the game, some people were lucky enough to collect a few ducks, while others were as wet as mice but left empty-handed. However, everyone was very energetic and happy.
