The Hue Traditional Craft Festival 2023, themed "Vietnamese craft quintessence" will take place from April 28 to May 5 in Hue, the capital of the central province of Thua Thien - Hue.

Hue Traditional Craft Festival is one of the key events organized every two years to contribute to the preservation and promotion of traditional craft values, as well as to the promotion and enhancement of Hue's image and status.

The Traditional Craft Festival, which debuted in 2005, has grown into a significant event in terms of cultural, entertainment, social, tourist, and commercial development. Hue's position as Vietnam's festival city has been strengthened and reinforced via eight festivals. The Asian Festival Association designated the Traditional Craft Festival as a typical Asian event in March 2020.

The 9th Traditional Craft Festival 2023 will be held from April 28 to May 5, 2023, after a four-year gap owing to the pandemic (the opening ceremony will be conducted on the evening of April 28 and the closing ceremony will be held on the evening of May 5). The festival occurs during the Hung King Temple Festival, April 30 and May 1 holidays which draws a big number of tourists.

Showcasing the quintessence of traditional craft

The festival's primary venue runs along both sides of the Perfume River, as do the Chu Van An - Pham Ngu Lao - Vo Thi Sau walking streets, Hue Imperial Citadel night street, Hai Ba Trung pedestrian street, and other streets.

This is a festival of great cultural, socioeconomic, and national significance, with international elements to affirm and enhance Hue's position as the "Green Ancient Capital - World Heritage - Safe and friendly city", honoring and spreading the value of national cultural heritage, improving production and business efficiency, and innovating traditional handicraft products. 

Festival also aims to bring traditional handmade items closer to tourism and domestic and worldwide consumer markets

Hue Traditional Craft Festival 2023 has 21 craft organizations, 69 craft villages, craft institutions, over 350 People's Artists, top craftsmen, and golden hands from the country's most famous craft villages. Products from the aforementioned occupational groups have a long history and have been validated in both local and international markets.

There are also 15 foreign cities with twinning and friendship cooperation, as well as international institutions, diplomatic posts, and international organizations in Vietnam, who have confirmed their participation with 153 representatives, at the 2023 Festival including Korea, Belgium, France, Japan...

The structure of the venue at this year's Festival to present traditional vocations is especially noteworthy. The organizers designed and decorated the site with a harmonious blend of Hue traditional houses and bamboo cottages, near to nature with beautiful and creative décor, and impressive check-in stations with national cultural colors,... Each booth will tell the tale of the profession, with a focus on traditional handmade goods with Vietnamese stamps and worldwide integration.

In addition, the event includes a "Creative Craft Design" display space with 17 manufacturing and commercial facilities, designers from inside and beyond the region, and new items based on traditional artisan goods. Hue Festival 2023

Hue Festival 2023 will be held all year round with four seasons, including the inaugural program on January 1, 2023 and the Countdown on December 31, 2023, under the theme "Cultural heritage with integration and development."

From January through March, the "Xuan Co Do" spring festival features a range of events such as Tet celebration practices, Tet celebration space, celebrations, and Thua Thien Hue reunification day.

The Summer Festival "Shining Citadel" from April to June will be the highlight of the whole year, the highlight is Hue Traditional Craft Festival Week with the theme "Vietnamese craft quintessence", and activities to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Hue Monuments Complex, the 20th anniversary of Hue Royal Court Music honored by UNESCO.

The "Hue vao thu" festival is celebrated from July to September. It includes various events such as the Aodai Festival, Hue Aodai Week, lantern festival, and lion dance festival.
