Every February 12th on the lunar calendar, Tay Phuong Danh village in Binh Dinh province hosts the Tay Phuong Danh Forging Village Festival. Lasting three days, it honors blacksmith ancestors, shares blacksmithing culture, and showcases and sells village handicrafts.
During the 15th - 17th centuries, Tay Phuong Danh was a pristine land and Vietnamese people migrated here to reclaim land and establish villages. By the late 18th century, the Tay Son insurgent army utilized the area for livestock, horse training, and weapon production. Tay Phuong Danh forging village not only crafted military tools but also supplied weapons for the Tay Son movement. These historical weapons are now preserved and showcased in museums, honoring the village's contributions. Throughout the resistance wars, Tay Phuong Danh continued to supply weapons for the national liberation movement.
The Tay Phuong Danh Forging Village Festival has a long history
The village specializes in crafting various tools such as hoes, shovels, machetes, knives, sickles, axes, carpentry tools, masonry tools, scissors, plowshares, mouse traps, and horseshoes. Each forge is specialized, focusing on specific products. For instance, some forges exclusively produce scissors, while others specialize in machetes and carpentry tools, and some focus solely on sickles. These high-quality products are renowned not only locally but have also gained popularity across the Central Highlands and South Central provinces. In 2007, the Provincial People's Committee officially acknowledged Phuong Danh Tay Forging Craft Village as meeting the criteria of a traditional craft village.

Many households, settled in distant places, make sure to return to their hometown in time to celebrate with relatives, cherishing their village's traditional profession.

At precisely 4 a.m. on the 12th day of the 2nd lunar month, the elders of the craft village, adorned in traditional attire, gather solemnly before the ancestral altar, accompanied by thousands of fellow craftsmen and spectators. Together, they offer prayers for the nation's peace and prosperity, express gratitude to their ancestors who passed down the profession, and seek continued prosperity for blacksmithing.
Following this ceremony, the countryside bursts into three days and nights of joyous festivities, featuring a myriad of cultural and artistic activities. These include traditional singing, folk games (such as tug and pot breaking), and youth art programs, all contributing to the vibrant atmosphere of celebration and community spirit that defines the festival.
