Introduction to the history of Dinh Dun festival - Ha Tinh

Phong Phu was once known as Long Phuc commune, but is currently known as Thach Khe commune, Thach Ha. The Nai river flows past the commune on the west side, down to the Son junction and eventually to the Sot estuary. The riverbed had previously eroded, and under Tu Duc's rule, Truong Quoc Hien paid money to purchase stones to link the riverbank.

Dr. Truong Quoc Dung's son later poured two more embankments, and the villagers built dykes along the river to avoid saltwater incursion. Every year on the 6th lunar month, the villagers organize the milk embankment once. Ky erected the dike in conjunction with the community celebration known as Dinh Dun.

No one knows when, but the Thach Ke commune's temples and shrines still have a very sacred site for the people in the hamlet, which is the Cay Da - Con Dinh area. It is a square dune about 40 meters on each side, 4 meters high, with an iron pillar in the centre about 6 meters high, also known as "Columbar Dinh Dun". A 200-year-old banyan tree stands to the southwest of the communal home.

Organization time and main activities in Dinh Dun festival

The "Dinh Dun" celebration takes place on the full moon day of June and lasts 3 to 4 days. The four armors' clams weave four slats, each 6 meters long, and bring them to encircle the shared home pillar and cover, forming a pavilion. The people are busy preparing the tray; in a good year, four buffaloes and 40 baskets of sticky rice are consumed; in a terrible year, only 20 baskets of sticky rice and four buffaloes are made. On the 15th, a ceremony to announce the Thanh Hoang will be held with the village's fairies and sages, followed by an invitation to the communal theater to commemorate the great occasion. At the time, the entire family area was extremely crowded. When the moon rises at night and the wind is chilly, boys and girls compete to answer each other, and entertaining events such as wrestling, tug of war, and tuong performance are also held. The celebration generally lasts three days, but it will end on June 18.

During the festival, which coincides with the water's depletion, the lads of the four armors will compete to smash the theater and obtain four bamboo slats to transport to Long Tuong dike and assemble on the vital dyke portions as instructed. Cheers were blended together with drums, motivating and encouraging the four armor to dig and fill the dike portion to the specified amount of soil and volume.  When the dyke was completed, boys and girls of four gathered on the dyke to hear the announcement of the results and receive the prize.
